The Aviation Security Manager works to ensure the company maintains compliance with all applicable Federal security transportation regulations
The Manager of Aviation Security is responsible for:

  • Maintaining and conducting both initial and recurrent training programs for direct employees and authorized representatives (as required) to ensure carriers compliance with applicable TSA Security and FAA/DOT hazardous material transportation
  • Performing scheduled and ad hoc security audits to ensure the carrier remains in compliance with applicable TSA and Hazmat requirements
  • Reviewing/interpreting changes in regulatory requirements regarding TSA security and FAA/DOT Hazardous Materials transportation and disseminating applicable information to affected personnel as necessary
  • Actively participate in USA Jet Safety Programs and Safety Management System
  • Reporting all safety concerns in a timely manner
  • Ensuring that they and their co-workers are performing their functions in the safest possible manner
  • Following the standards of the Occupational Safety and Health organization with legal authority at the location at which he/she is working
  • In the absence of the DSS when the Manager of Aviation Security meets the requirements of 14 CFR 119.65(d) he or she may act as a proxy to perform the duties and responsibilities of the DSS under 14 CFR 119.65(a)(1). The DSS or other authorized person shall notify the Manager of Aviation Security in writing that he or she has been designated to perform the functions and for what time period
  • Any other duties as assigned by the DSS

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements as outlined in:
    • 49CFR Parts 171 through 180 (Hazardous Materials Regulations) [excluding Parts 174 176 177 and 179] and
    • 49CFR Parts 1500 1520 and Subchapter C (Transportation Security Administration Department of Homeland Security)
    • 14CFR Part 121
  • Solid communications skills – both verbal and written
  • Ability to read write and speak English fluently
  • Ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve issues
  • Capability to creatively solve problems
  • Must be able to think and react quickly with a sense of urgency to time-sensitive problem situations.
  • Must be able to remain calm during adverse conditions.
  • Computer software knowledge of key Microsoft Office platforms including Microsoft Word and Excel preferred

  • Must be able to successfully pass an initial and random Drug and Alcohol screening process as required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and a Fingerprint Based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and/or Security Threat Assessment (STA) as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
