POSITION SUMMARY
Provides a wide range of respiratory care services to patients ranging from infants to geriatric age groups as directed by physicians orders in all settings but the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This individual works independently as a licensed clinician.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Administers aerosolized medication chest physiotherapy airway clearance techniquesand hyperinflation therapy upon physician orders/protocols.
Administers oxygen and participates in patient care decisions regarding oxygen administration utilizing respiratory assessment skills and lab results. Draws analyzes and interprets arterial blood gases.
Participates in patient education and evaluation. Assesses patients vital signs breath sounds patient history etc.
Participates as a member of the Trauma/Code 9 Critical Assessment and Critical Care Transport Teams.
Performs CPR and airway management
Consults patients at physicians and nurses request to expedite appropriate respiratory care.
Assists physician with fiberoptic bronchoscopy.
Documents patient involvement in medical record.
Initiates and changes invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation according to protocol in physicians absence. Changes ventilator setting according to protocol and/or physician order.
Conducts apnea tests for determination of brain death.
Maintains assembles troubleshoots disinfects prepares for sterilization and documents for repair all respiratory care devices.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS
Ability to deliver patient care in a manner that is appropriate to patients age physical ability and intellectual development. Must demonstrate proficiency in assessing treatment and responses and adapting care to meet the needs of the patient population served; pediatric adolescent adult and/or geriatric.
Maintains knowledge of recent advances in medical principles of respiratory therapy equipment procedures and drugs.
Demonstrates knowledge of specialized examinations and tests associated with respiratory therapy and understand the reasons for the individual patients needs and respiratory therapy plan.
Good interpersonal skills.
Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE
Education: Minimum of an Associates Degree and passed CRT or RRT exam.
Experience: One year clinical experience preferred. Trained and competent to perform all necessary procedures on a population of Newborn Pediatric Adolescent Adult and Geriatric patients.
Certification/Licensure: Ability to obtain BLS qualification during orientation period and maintain during employment. Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care and State of NH Respiratory Care Practitioner License. ACLS required within 6 months of hire. PALS required within 6 months of hire.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Schedule: Requirements to work weekdaysweekends or variable shifts. Required to be on call work overtime and work holidays.
