### Summary
Recruitment Incentive May be Authorized.
This position is part of the Director of Operational Test and Evaluation. As a Interdisciplinary this position is located in the Office of the Director Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E;) Office of the Secretary of Defense. The DOT&E; was established by statute and the Director has status and responsibilities equivalent to those of an Assistant Secretary of Defense. The DOT&E; reports directly to the Congress and to the Secretary of Defense on all matters pertaining to operational tests and evaluations within the Department of Defense (DOD). This position may be filled by any of the occupational series GS-801 GS-1301 or GS-1515.
The DOT&E; mission of operational test and evaluation is regarded as a key element in the DoD system acquisition process by the Secretary of Defense and the United States Congress as evidenced by the establishment of the Office of the Director Operational Test and Evaluation in public law. To support the acquisition decision process the Secretary of Defense must be provided with thorough and objective assessments of the effectiveness and suitability of weapon systems in a realistic operational environment. Similarly the DOT&E;s assessments form a critical part of the congressional review of weapon system programs.
The Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) is the principal staff element of the Secretary of Defense in the exercise of policy development planning resource management fiscal and program evaluation responsibilities. OSD includes the immediate offices of the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense Under Secretaries of Defense Director of Defense Research and Engineering Assistant Secretaries of Defense General Counsel Director of Operational Test and Evaluation Assistants to the Secretary of Defense Director of Administration and Management and such other staff offices as the Secretary establishes to assist in carrying out assigned responsibilities.

### Responsibilities
As a Interdisciplinary GS-0801/1301/1515-14 your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:
Ensures that Operational Test Agencies and Service Information Warfare Centers identify the essential information assurance and computer network defense performance parameters
Ensures systems subsystems and supporting equipment performance will be assessed under operationally realistic and threat representative conditions
Reviews exercise assessment plans and operational test and evaluation plans developed by the Services and Agencies for adequacy
Directs and develops an independent assessment of the results of fielded-systems exercise assessments and operational tests and evaluations

### Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
A. Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable the program must: (1) lead to a bachelors degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics such as optics heat transfer soil mechanics or electronics.

B. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education training and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering and (2) a good understanding both theoretical and practical of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: 1. Professional registration or licensure -- Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI) Engineer in Training (EIT)1 or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State the District of Columbia Guam or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g. State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example an applicant who attains registration through a State Boards eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions. 2. Written Test -- Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)2 examination or any other written test required for professional

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
