Recovery News Yellow 5 now on its gear
Legend Flyers of Everett, WA reports that
Messerschmitt Me262 Yellow 5 has had the
fuselage mated to the wings and is now on
its landing gear. This static example of
the historic Me262 fighter jet has been
painted in the markings of JG-7 pilot Albert
Ambs who was shot down by a Tuskegee Airmen
on March 24, 1945.
In addition to a complete
cockpit layout, Yellow 5 has an authentic
gun bay with 4-30MM cannons and will also
have 24 wing mounted folding fin rockets,
something that no other example of the Me262
has.
Next up for the restoration is the installation
of engine nacelles, gear doors and wing
slats. Yellow 5 is seeking a permanent home,
and several worldwide museums have expressed
an interest in this incredible Warbird.
